Fruit And Vegetables You Should Add To Your Smoothies

When it comes to eating healthy, it isn’t always easy.  If you are willing to commit to eating healthy, it can prove to be a smart decision.  Fruit And Vegetables You Should Add To Your Smoothies

When your diet includes plenty of fruit and vegetables it makes a big difference.  Whether fresh or frozen, natural whole foods contain plenty of minerals, vitamins, and nutrients.  Also, they contain large amounts of fiber and antioxidants.

Every one of these can help to naturally protect your body against many diseases and illnesses.

There are certain fruits and vegetables that you should be including in your diet.  These are packed full of nutrition and will prove beneficial to you in so many ways.

Fruit

Cantaloupe

Is a member of the melon family that is rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene.  It also contains plenty of Vitamin A which will help keep your eyes healthy.  It is rich in potassium, an important mineral that can  help to lower your blood pressure.

Citrus Fruit

In this group, you’ll find not only oranges but grapefruits, limes, and lemons.  These all provide you with good quantities of Vitamin C, fiber, folate and potassium.

Also, make sure to include pink grapefruit in your diet because it is rich in an antioxidant known as lycopene.

NOTE – Avoid all packaged fruit juices that you find in stores as they are usually full of sugar and pasteurized to increase shelf life. The pasteurization process kills many of the important nutrients that you naturally find in fruit so the manufacturers add back the nutrients by using synthetic vitamins which the body doesn’t absorb.

Avocado

This particular fruit (no it’s not a vegetable) is full of monounsaturated fat.  A fat that is considered to be good for your heart.  It also helps to increase the levels of good (HDL) cholesterol. At the same time, it lowers the levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol.  If that wasn’t enough avocados also are rich in Vitamin E.

Avocado’s are one of the healthiest foods you can eat and work great for adding a creamy texture to smoothies.

Kiwifruit

It may not be the prettiest looking fruit but it delivers in the health stakes.  As well as being full of fiber it is rich in Vitamin C.

Vegetables

Carrots

Like other fruits and vegetables carrots are full of fiber.  Not only can they help where weight maintenance is concerned, they are good for your digestive system.  Plus they can help to lower cholesterol levels.  Like the cantaloupe, carrots are rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene.

Once in the body this antioxidant converts into Vitamin A and helps to maintain healthy eyes.  How often have you heard your mum say “if you don’t eat your carrots you won’t see well”.

Also, this antioxidant provides support to your immune system and keeps your skin healthy. Actually there are cancer patients who have consumed large amounts of carrot juice to help them naturally fight off cancer.

Carrot juice can have a strong flavor so stick with recipes that have ingredients (like oranges and grapefuits) that help neutralize the strong taste.

Spinach

This vegetable contains plenty of iron, potassium and Vitamins A, C and K. Spinach is also rich in folate, phytochemicals, and flavonoids.  Every one of these can help to give your immune system a boost.  Plus certain antioxidant properties could protect you against certain forms of cancer.

Spinach is a key ingredients used in many green smoothies because it has a mild taste and packs a ton of nutrients.

Beetroot (Beets)

These provide you with a good dose of iron as well as fiber and folate.  Also to be found in red beetroot is a betacyanin.  This pigment in the vegetable could protect against you developing colon cancer.

Broccoli

This is from the same group of vegetables as kale, cabbage, and bok choy.  Like other members of this group, it is rich in phytochemicals.  Plus also full of Vitamin C, calcium, Vitamin A and not forgetting fiber.

Like other vegetables, this one also contains a compound known as sulforaphane.  It helps to improve health and can help to fight cancer.

If you aren’t a real fan of fruit and vegetables, then there are plenty of ways to enjoy.  One of the best ways to include them is by making smoothies.

When you make smoothies you are ensuring that you are including every part.  Meaning you are getting the most vitamins, minerals, and nutrients from them.
