Nutribullet Question Answer FAQ

If you new to Nutribullet blenders, here are some detailed posts that answer many Nutribullet questions:

The list of Nutribullet questions is getting long so I added a Table of Contents below. Click on a specific question to be taken to it or continue scrolling down to read through all the questions.

Table of Contents

Is the Nutribullet dishwasher safe?

Nutribullet cups and lids are can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher but the blades are not dishwasher safe.

Nutribullet recommends that the easiest way to clean a Nutribullet after use is to fill the container 1/2 full with warm, soapy water(use a little dish soap). Screw the blade onto the jar filled with soapy water and run the blender for 30 seconds and rinse out.

What is the Newest Nutribullet Blender ?

The newest Nutribullet model is the Nutribullet Combo Full-size blender. and the Nutribullet Pro Plus n12-1001 blender. The other recent models are the Nutribullet PRIME which is a small update to the 900 Pro, the Nutribullet Max which is the same as Nutribullet Lean, Nutribullet Select which has more controls, and the Nutribullet LEAN. You can read my Nutribullet lean review which explains how it compares to the earlier Nutribullet models.

Who is Nutribullet?

Nutribullet is made by a company called Capital Brands LLC that is headquartered in Los Angelos, California. They make the Nutribullet, Magic Bullet, and related “Bullet” blender products. Nutribullet products were introduced in 2012.

Who sells the Nutribullet?

Nutribullet is sold all over the world in many retail stores. I generally recommend people buy Nutribullet on Amazon which I discuss in this post.

Where is Nutribullet made?

Nutribullet is made in Asia and sold throughout the world.

Can you make juices in the Nutribullet?

Yes, but you would need to pour the blended drink through a sieve to get a juice-like consistency.

Is Nutribullet a juicer or a blender?

The Nutribullet is a blender that liquifies the ingredients. Whereas, a juicer extracts the juices and removes the pulp and fiber. Nutribullet calls it an extractor because it claims to extracts nutrients from the fruit and veggies but really it is a blender. See answer to question above for more details.

Are Nutribullet cups BPA-free?

YES, Nutribullet cups are made from non-toxic BPA free plastic. Most blenders use plastic now because it is tested to withstand the high impact of ingredients in high-speed blenders. The industry standard used by most blender manufacturers is Tritan BPA free plastic.

What is the difference between the Nutribullet 600 vs 900 Pro version?

The main difference comes in the power (6oo watts vs 900 watts) and blending jar capacity(600 has 24oz capacity and 900 Pro has 32oz capacity). There are a few other differences that I explain in my extensive review comparing Nutribullet 600 vs 900 vs RX blenders.

Are Nutribullet cups and blades compatible with all models?

No. The cups and blades are different between the “Classic” Nutribullet 600 and 900 Pro models which has the cup threads on the outside of the cup versus the new Nutribullet combo models cup thread is on the inside of the cups.

What is the difference between the Magic Bullet and the Nutribullet?

The Magic Bullet was the initial blender from Nutribullet company. The Nutribullet line is more powerful and larger capacities. I would get a Nutribullet because the Magic bullet is weaker and has smaller capacity cups.

I have a detailed post comparing Magic bullet versus Nutribullet blenders.

What are the Nutribullet Cup Sizes?

  • Short Cup  = 18 ounces (380ml).  Works with 600, Pro 900, & Nutribullet Max models.
  • Tall Cup = 24 ounces (680ml). Works with 600, Pro 900, & Nutribullet Max models.
  • Colossal Cup = 32ounces (946ml). Works with Pro 900, MAX, and Nutribulet PRIME.
  • Rx Cups = 30oz & 45oz. Only works with the Rx model and not interchangeable with other Nutribullet models.
  • Magic Bullet cup = 18 ounces. Not usable with Nutribullet blenders.

Can I use the same Nutribullet Cups with every model?

No, Nutribullet cups are not interchangeable across all models. See answer to the question above. Essentially, The Nutribullet RX is the only model that does not accommodate cups from the other Nutribullet models. The Nutribullet Rx has a wider cup than the other models.

Do Magic Bullet Cups and Blades work with Nutribullet Blenders?

No, they do not. Magic bullet cups can not be used with Nutribullet blenders.

How Does Nutribullet Help with Weight Loss?

In my blending versus juicing article, I talk about blending for weight loss. Adding green smoothies to your diet replenishes micronutrients to help your body removes toxins.

Drinking healthy Nutribullet blasts provides whole food nutrition as a meal replacement so you consume less of the foods that were causing weight gain. Adding healthy smoothies to your everyday diet will result in healthy, sustainable weight loss.

Get our favorite Nutribullet weight loss recipes .

Also, reference the 6 week Transformation Plan that is provided with your Nutribullet blender. It has lots of details and recipes to follow.

How Many Times a Day Should I Use Nutribullet?

Nutribullet provides a detailed plan with the blender. Normally, you can start with replacing one meal a day with a Nutribullet blast and add a second Nutriblast drink to your daily diet as your body gets used to them.

Can the Nutribullet Crush Ice?

Don’t do it. While the Nutribullet can crush ice, the company says the blender blades are not designed to crush ice. You can use a couple ice cubes in your Nutriblast smoothie recipe as long as you use liquid. Ice should be less than 25% of your total ingredients when making a Nutribullet smoothie.

Do I have to fill my Nutribullet to the Max fill line ?

No, that Max fill line is just so you don’t overfill it which reduces the blending efficiency. Although, I personally have filled the raw ingredients past the max fill line plenty of times and no issues. You can blend any amount that works for you but the recommendation is to keep it below the max fill line.

Can I use the Nutribullet to make baby food?

Yes, you can use any model of Nutribullet to make baby food. They even have a model called Baby Bullet baby food system which has accessories for making your own baby food but the blender only has 200 watts. It is limited to blending soft or pre-cooked foods. The Nutribullet 600 (or stronger model) can do a better job pureeing baby foods but only the Baby Bullet has the accessories and manual for making baby food.

Reminder- don’t blend hot foods(like cooked vegetables) in the Nutribullet.

What liquids can I use with Nutribullet?

While all the Nutribullet recipes use water, you can use any liquid that you like. Popular alternatives to water are rice milk, almond milk, and coconut milk.

Can I blend frozen fruit and vegetables in a Nutribullet?

Yep, I use frozen ingredients all the time in Nutribullet. The frozen ingredients can make it thicker so you might need to add extra liquid than normal.

Why do the Nutribullet Ingredients stick sometimes when I try to Blend?

Like any blender, the Nutribullet ingredients can “stick” and not blend if you don’t put in enough liquid. You want to have enough liquid so that the blender creates a vortex in the middle and pulls the ingredients down to the blade for proper blending.

How to Use the Nutribullet?

You get a quick start guide with the blender. It is really easy to use. You just pour the ingredients and liquid to the cup’s max fill line and screw the blade on. Then twist the jar and blade into the little grooves on the motor base. It will blend until you twist the jar out of the grooves. Nutribullet blends at one speed so you just blend until the ingredients are to your desired consistency.

If you have never made a green smoothie, then read my Ultimate Guide on How to Make a Smoothie .

How do you turn on the Nutribullet?

Once you have the blade assembly screwed onto the jar, you just twist the jar into the grooves on the side of the blender base. The Nutribullet will continue blending while the jar is locked in. To stop it, you just reverse the jar slightly to take it out of the groove. The blender comes with a quick start guide that explains it. It is very simple.

Does the Nutribullet stop by itself or do you have to stop it?

For the original design(Nutribullet 600 and 900 pro) you stop it by twisting the jar slightly out of the grooves. For the Nutribullet Rx and Nutribullet Lean models, they use an automated blending sequence that stops on its own.

How Long to Blend with a Nutribullet?

Usually 30-45 seconds or more depending on what you are blending. For smoothies, just blend until you see no more whole food parts moving around.

Does the Nutribullet leak?

I have never had my Nutribullet leak after years of use. The Nutribullet can leak if the blade is not screwed on properly of if you don’t have the washer properly installed. Make sure you have the washer pushed all the way down into the groove before screwing on the blade.

There was an old blade assembly design that had some small leaks but it was fixed. All Nutribullet models now have the new blade assembly design.

What happens if my Nutribullet rubber gasket comes out?

That is totally normally to have the gasket comes out occasionally when you unscrew the blade from the jar. You want to take the gasket out every so often to clean the food out from under it.

If it comes out when you are unscrewing the cup from the blade then just push the rubber washer back into the channel inside the threaded base.

Which Nutribullet blade to use?

The Nutribullet 600 comes with 2 different blades(Extraction blade and Milling blade). The more powerful models just come with the extraction blade because the higher power can replace needing the milling blade.

  • Extraction blade(4 prong blade) is for blending and can use it for everything if you like.
  • Milling blade(2 prong blade) is designed mostly for dry ingredients. Use it to grind flours, chop herbs, chop nuts, make spices, and make nut butter.

TIP- to make nut butter and mill flour with the extraction blade, it helps to pulse the blender to move the ingredients around.

Which Nutribullet blade to use for smoothies?

Use the 4 prong extraction blade for smoothies.

Which Nutribullet blade to grind dry spices?

The milling blade works very well for grinding dry spices. If you only have an extraction blade then you should be fine with that.

Which Nutribullet blade for hummus?

The extraction blade works fine for making hummus since the liquid(olive oil) will help the ingredients blend better.

Can you make almond milk in the Nutribullet?

Yes, you can use any Nutribullet blender model to make almond milk. You will need a strainer bag after blending. Here is a video demonstration .

Do I have to grind my Flaxseed in Nutribullet?

You can use flaxseed powder or whole flaxseed in your Nutribullet smoothies. The blades will break down whole flaxseed.

Can I blend hot liquids in a Nutribullet?

NO. Nutribullet specifically states in all their manuals not to use hot liquids in their blenders. If you blending cooked ingredients then let them cool first before using the Nutribullet blender.

The Rx model does make soups with a built-in heating element which heats up the liquid as you blend.

Can You Make Soup With The Nutribullet?

Sort of. Unlike a Vitamix which blends the ingredients so fast that it heats up the ingredients through the use of friction, the Nutribullet does not blend HOT ingredients.

Use the Nutribullet to liquefy the ingredients and then put the liquid in a pan to cook on a stove. The other option is using the Nutribullet Rx to heat up the blended ingredients with its built-in heating element. See our guide to the best soup blenders.

Does the Nutribullet Blend Hard Vegetables?

Yes, the Nutribullet has enough horsepower to blend hard vegetables with liquid added.

Can you make Carrot juice with Nutribullet?

Well, Nutribullet is not a juicer but can make carrot smoothies. If you really wanted to make carrot juice using a Nutribulet then blend raw carrots with water and put the blended solution through a strainer.

Can I Grind Dry Almonds in a Nutribullet?

Yes, but it will usually end up more like Almond butter consistency from the heat and friction if you blend too long.

Can you make peanut butter in the Nutribullet?

Yes, you can make peanut butter or other nut butters with the Nutribullet. The milling blade works well for nut butter but you can also do it with the extraction blade. It helps to use a little oil like olive oil. Here is a Nutribullet almond butter recipe .

Does Nutribullet come with a spare blade?

The Nutribullet 600 comes with 1 extractor and 1 milling blade. Most of the Nutribullet models come with 1 extractor blade (NOTE – some of the Pro 900 packages comes with 2 extractor blades).

You can always buy extra Nutribullet blades, see my Nutribullet replacement parts article.

Is the Nutribullet Noisy?

Yes, the Nutribullet is noisy but no different than any other blender that operates at similar speeds.

Which Nutribullet Should I get?

Read our Nutribullet review. They all work well but we like the Pro 900 because it offers a nice balance of power and a large enough 32oz capacity to make larger portions.

Some of the newer Nutribullet models are OK such as the Nutribullet PRIME 1000w System(small update to 900 for similar price as 900) and Nutribullet Select blender with controls but we still prefer the simple but effective 600w or 900w models.

Does Nutribullet Have Variable speeds?

No, all Nutribullet models operate at one speed. The Rx and Lean models have pre-programmed blending cycles that switch between blending and pulsing. If you want variable speeds, look into one of the popular smoothie blenders in this post.

Can you grind coffee in the Nutribullet?

Yes, you can grind coffee with the Nutribullet. TIP – Make sure you clean the jar right away so your smoothies don’t have a coffee taste later on.

Can I Travel with a Nutribullet?

Technically, yes the Nutribullet is portable to travel with. The popular 600 and 900 models both weight about 4 pounds.

Can I make a Nutriblast the Night before?

Yes, you can. Just refrigerate right away and store in an airtight container. Try to fill the jar as close to the top as possible to prevent air from being trapped in the jar.

It is preferable to drink smoothies as soon after blending as possible because air can oxidize(deplete) the nutrients. Try not to store a smoothie for more than 2 days. Lemon juice also helps preserve the smoothie.

Are Nutribullet travel lids interchangeable?

The lids are interchangeable on Nutribullet 600, Pro 900 and Lean but not on the Rx model.

Should I Use Protein Powder with Nutribullet Smoothies?

Sure if you need extra protein in your diet. The nuts, seeds, and certain whole foods like avocados will provide some protein in your Nutriblasts. For an extra boost of protein then protein powders are great.

Personally, We prefer Hemp protein (this is what we use) because your body uses Hemp protein efficiently and it doesn’t have additives or sweeteners in it like many commercial protein powders. Hemp protein does have a mild “earthy” taste but it isn’t noticeable in smoothies. Related article: Hemp smoothies

Will the Nutribull Work in UK and Overseas?

Yes, you will need to either buy a Nutribullet model that is wired for UK / European outlets or use an outlet adapter that can handle the power output of the Nutribullet.

Can Nutribullet be used with dehydrated fruits and vegetables?

Yes, it can be used with dehydrated fruits and vegetables without any concerns. Remember to add a liquid when blending. I use dried prunes and dates all the time in my Nutribullet drinks for sweetening rather than a sweetener.

Should I Cook Rice before adding to Nutribullet

Yes, I would.

Was there a Nutribullet Lawsuit due to explosions ?

2017 Lawsuit – There was news of a lawsuit from some customers who experienced injury using the Nutribullet. The company says it is from misuse. As of 2024 there are no recalls, the company hasn’t changed any designs, and retailers are still selling Nutribullets.  I still use a Nutribullet blender and I always follow the instructions for proper use.

I have the nutribullet RX. Does the liquid level always has to be up to the max line? Sometimes i only need to make one smoothie and half of the small cup is enough.

Hello Antonella, No the liquid level does not need to be at max. The Max line is just do you don’t over fill it. I rarely fill to the full max line.

Hello Anna, my name is Tom Johnson and I received the NUTRiBULLET, Magic Bullet as a gift. I did not get a user guide with the gift. As simple as it seems I can’t make the device work. There is no on/off switch and nothing happens when I assemble it and plug it in. I have contacted the the company several times by phone and the customer service agents have all told me they would email me the complete user guide. None of them have responded so I just don’t know what else to do. If the unit is defective, so be it, but I can’t tell. I found the owner company to be Capital Brands LLC so I am going to try to contact them to see if they can help. At this point however, with no promised response from the customer service agents I am about to give up. Thanks!

What should I do to prolong the life of my Nutri Bullet? I heard that liquids spill out of the lid and the rubber circular part falls out into the smoothie I would make.

        Anna Powell

Hi, Just follow the directions in the manual and you should be fine. I suggest hand rinsing out the blade and jars immediately after use (I don’t put my Nutribullet accessories in the dishwasher as I feel the high heat can wear out the parts quicker).

You shouldn’t have leaks if you are properly filling it and putting the blade on tightly. If you get a spill just unplug and wipe out quickly.

I failed to tighten Nutribullet Rx properly. Juice was in the housing and leaked thru to bottom. Any tips on maintenance other than let dry out?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Mark, Yes the Rx can leak if not tightened properly. Not really any maintenance needed for the Nutribullet blender except just proper usage as mentioned in the manual. For example, a lot of people try to crush ice without liquid with Nutribullet blenders which they say not to and it will break the blades over time.

Hi. Can Nutribullet blend the back and seeds of fruits with tough skins?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Sophia. Usually the common ingredients that are tested with blenders to gauge a blenders ability to liquidity ingredients well are kale and blackberries and the stronger Nutribullet models like the 900, Rx and Select can perform pretty well in those tests. I’ve used the weaker Nutribullet 600 also with berries with seeds and it does well but will leave a little bit of seeds. The specific ingredient will also blend differently depending on how much liquid you use, other combined ingredients, and how long but in general the strong Nutribullet blenders can purify seeds, nuts, and fibrous ingredients pretty well. For personal blenders, the Breville Boss has scored a higher in various tests than Nutribullet for its ability to liquify (see my full Breville Boss review for more details )

Can the blender container that you use with the NutriBullet be put into the freezer with your smoothie inside?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Donna, Nutribullet recommends not to store their containers in the freezer. It is best to put your Nutriblast smoothie in a freezer-safe container as it will store better. Also for freezing the smoothie it is best to drink it fresh but the general rule of thumb is that they are OK to freeze up to a couple weeks.

Hi, what’s the minimum amount of liquid you can use in the big cup?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Kayla, I typically like to use 1cup of liquid to make a personal size smoothie but there really isn’t a certain minimum(just a maximum). Nutribullet says add liquid to the “MAX fill line” as it will thoroughly blend everything with that much liquid, but I find that to be too much liquid for me on some recipes. I just measure 1 cup to start with which gives a nice consistency and is enough to blend the ingredients thoroughly. If you are making a really small portion like when making baby food then you can try for less than 1cup and just add more liquid if its not enough.

can i grind coconut in the nutribullet or magicbullet?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Lexi. Are you looking to grind coconut pulp(fiber) into coconut flour or just grind up coconut flakes. Yes, the flakes are easy. The coconut raw pulp does OK with the Nutribullet but in small batches. For really fine blending to a coconut flour then the Nutribullet won’t do it as well as a Vitamix or Blendtec.

I’ve had mine the 600 model for two weeks, and today I mixed some banana and cocoa into almond milk I made yesterday and there was a good few drops of milk in the bottom part. I can’t see any obvious leaks. Is this right, should it come through, it was firmly screwed together. I’m not sure whether to take it back and get it replaced or not – what do you think?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Sue, no it shouldn’t leak at all. Did you keep the liquid under the max fill line? Try running it running a test with just water filled to the max fill line and see what happens. If it leaks again I would contact Nutribullet or return to retailer. I would just get a replacement if it leaks after you test it.

Hello
I am considering buying a Nutribullet 600.
One question:
Is it ok to use skins from citrus fruits, particularly oranges, and from bananas?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Eugene, No you want to peel skins from citrus and bananas. You can add a little “Zest” shavings citrus but don’t use whole skin. Here is a good chart from Nutribullet how to prep an ingredients. Hope that help. The 600 is a solid blender and I love the flat grinding blade that comes with it.

Hi Brenda, that is strange. The Max comes normally just comes with colossal cup, stainless steep mug, and pitcher. I’ve never seen a white cup with holes come with any of their blenders. I would call and ask. 800-523-5993 I would be curious to hear what they tell you.

I believe that is the storage cup for the blades. The holes allow airflow and the cup protects hands from touching blades even stored 8n a cabinet.

That is the storage cup for the blade assembly. The holes allow for airflow and using it when storing the machine (say while you have the drinking cup in the dishwasher).

Hello, I bought the Nutribullet RX and put some veggies with some water (not all the way up to the max line) and after the automatic 1 min cycle it came out warm, is that normal? I’m sure I didnt activate the soupblaster cycle.

Thanks

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Rodrigo. Yes ingredients can get warm if there is friction in any high powered blender.(Vitamix can turn raw vegetables with cold water into hot soup).

You can use less veggies per amount of water or prep the ingredients more(cut them up into smaller pieces) to reduce the friction.

      John Erasmus

I have the same problem with the RX (it’s heating room temperature liquids when not on a soup cycle). I tested it with tap water alone and it heats it to about 40 – 50 deg celsius in a 1 minute cycle. Is this normal or should I return the product?

      Reply
        Anna Powell

Hi John, all blender will warm up ingredients through friction. The Rx is pretty powerful so if you blend long enough them yes the ingredients would warm up. If you blend long enough the tap water could warm up but that should not occur typically with normal blending cycles. I would call Nutribullet about it. 1-800-523-5993

Do I need every time to fill up the cup with liquid up to max line? Can I fill up less then to the max line?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Jagi, No you do not need to fill Nutibullet cups to the max fill line. You do want to use enough liquid to properly puree the ingredients but I typically use 1-1.5 cups of liquid which is not the max fill line. The type of ingredients you use will also effect now much liquid you need. Just follow the nutribullet recipes and then decide if you prefer less liquid after you try them.

I bought a Nutribullet ‘600 series Magic Bullet’ on 19th October 2017. it is important vital buy because I am trying help my elderly mum who has a combination of diseases regain health. I have noticed an improvement since I began giving her smoothies in the morning. BUT to my horror there is already a leakage. It is underneath in the gully surrounding the black rubber thing on the underside underneath the blades. VERY difficult to clean away. What would you do if you were me. I have been reading some other Nutribullet users online using various models over a time period with the suggestion Nutribullet has a major design fault…?? But my question is, i NEED a blender, what should I do?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Julian, We haven’t experienced any leak with the 600 and in the past I did see some comments about a slight leak but from not tightening enough or overfilling. If it is leaking out the bottom of the blade assembly where the blade spins then that sounds unusual so I would try contacting Nutribullet https://www.mynutriliving.com/contact-us or return it.

Thankyou i was looking for what blade to use with what.

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hello Jerome, You can use the Extractor blade for everything. Nutribullet makes 2 blades but only provides the extractor blade with every model. The main blade is the extractor blade which comes with all their blenders and can do everything. The Milling blade only comes with the 600 model and it has 2 flat blades for blending flours, nut butters, spices, and nuts. As the Nutribullet blenders models got stronger in power (compared to the Nutribullet 600) the extractor blade was able to handle most of the tasks of the Milling blade.

If you look at the design of the Extractor blade you will see that 2 of the 4 blades are bend down and flat as that is replace the need for the milling blade.

Hi Anna, that is very interesting. I bought nutribullet 900 and customer service wrote

“Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, we do not recommend using the milling blade with the NutriBullet Pro 900, because milling dry ingredients without liquid can damage the blade or motor. The only blenders we have that are capable of blending dry ingredients are the NutriBullet 600 with milling blade or the Magic Bullet with the milling blade.”

So i am thinking returing NB900 and buying NB600 which has milling blade.

      Thanks

      Reply
        Anna Powell

Hello Kamala, The 900 blade works fine for milling but you can also just buy the milling blade separately from nutribullet and use it with the 900. It is up to you. The 600 works quite well so the 900 or 600 are both great choices.

          Anna,
We first had the 600, then the 900, and now we just unboxed the 1000. But we had the same concern: We still want to be able to grind nuts and seeds, but the user guide says to always use liquid.
Your comment above about the more powerful motor allowing the extractor blade to do the job makes sense, but we don’t want to damage the machine and then be liable. Can you please clear this up? Thank you.

Hi the Nutribullet blades are designed more to use with liquid but I grind nuts and seeds without issue. Just pulse the nuts and it will grind it fine. You can always buy new blades over time if they get dull. I don’t use a Nutribullet to make nut butters though as it isn’t designed well for that.

Hi there,

I have the nutri bullet 1000 watt which i purchased a couple of months ago. I absolutely love it, but thought it stopped blending on its own. I have left it max for about 30 seconds, but then I start to smell a faint burning overheated rubber smell, so I quickly stop it myself. I haven’t had the guts to continue blending just in case.

Is this normal?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Natasha, I would call Nutribullet as I would be careful if you smelled burning especially after only having it blend 30seconds. (It would be different if you blended too long and it caused it to overheat). Their customer # is 1-800-523-5993

You could also try just blending with a little water in the container as a test to see if it does it again.

Is it safe to use the nutribullet after the contents (I.e milk) have leaked through the base?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Ashleigh it should not be leaking every time you use it. If so I would get a new blade base or talk to Nutribullet. Some people have experienced a slight leak from overfilling. You should wipe out the liquid from the motor base first before using again.

My brand new Nutribullet Lean leaks all the way through the bottom of the machine as well as inside where you put the cup. Some days it does not grind everything up into pure liquid. Also, the button does not turn blue when I push it.
Some days it works perfectly and I truly love this machine but other days, not so much 🙁

Hi Sue, sorry to hear about your experiences. I would refund it if possible or call Nutribullet and ask for a replacement blade to fix the leak. Personally I prefer the 900 Pro model simply because it doesn’t have any automated blending program and I can just control how long I blend for.

Turned on my NutriBullet 1000 for the 1st time this morning, the blades rotated a few times in a pulsating fashion & now there appears to be no power going through.
We have checked the socket & all is ok (kettle works)
Guess we will have to return to the seller for a replacement / refund ?

I was using a friend’s Nutribullet 1200 series magic bullet. After blending, i t was difficult to detach the cup and blade combo from the motor section. When I did that, I found that the rubber seal had detached and was wrapped around the blade and broken. Luckily, it seemed to be all there but I need to replace it for my friend. I would rather just buy a new blade than put them to the trouble of trying to insert a gasket, presuming I can find one in Australia. I can’t find any info on whether blade sections are interchangeable. ie how do I buy one I know will fit?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hello Karen, I did write about Nutribullet replacement parts(here is link to that post) but most are through Amazon.com in USA because Amazon sells authentic parts directly from Nutribullet. For Australia, your best bet is probably buying it directly from Nutribullet through their website especially the blade to make sure it is properly made for safety. Sorry I can’t be more help but I am not familiar with the retailers in Australia for Nutribullet parts.

Hi, the Nutribullet 900 does well at pureeing and generally does fine with fruit seeds like blackberries but it might not be to the fine consistency that you need for your specific health concern. You might be better off with a very high speed blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec which blend to the finest consistency as measured in most blending tests using a mesh sieve strainer. See our Vitamix guide for more details.

Can I grind salt in the Nutribullet

Reply
    Anna Powell

The grinding blade works well for that(grids flour, herbs, coffee, and rock salt). The flat grinding blade is included with the Nutribullet 600. I would assume the standard Nutribullet blade that comes with the Pro 900 and other models with 900+ watts would also grind salt well too but I haven’t tried.

Hi, I have noticed that when I hold the blade assembly in my hand and try to turn the blades from above or below, it is very hard to turn. Is this normal? Am I risking burning out the motor because of excessive resistance?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hello PJ. I am not sure which model you have but the blade should turn easily without resistance. Try running it under some hot water to see if it loosens up. Otherwise I would get a new blade. (Nutribullet suggest replacing blades every 6 months if you are using it daily). We wrote a guide to Nutribullet Replacement Parts if you decide to get a new blade.

Does more watts mean more noise? Is the 900 series louder than the 600?

Generally yes the more power the louder the blender. The noise difference in 900w vs 600w is not huge but noticeable.

PETRINA HEWARD

Hello Anna,
I have the 600 and love it to pieces. It works absolutely wonderfuly well. Occasionally there has been a little seepage but that is usually human error not the machine.
However when doing green smoothies using kale or similiar hard veg the result can have more bits than is palatable. Should I add water up to the max line to avoid this?
I do not necessarily want to upgrade to a more powerful model but perhaps a larger cup allowing for more fluid may make a difference.
Thank you

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hello Petrina, The 600 can struggle with finely blending tough ingredients like Kale or Celery. You should put those ingredient into the Nutribullet cup 1st so that they blend last when the cup is turned upside down. This is because you want the blender to have a strong vortex when it get to the last ingredients so it blends them better. The max size cup on the Nutribullet 600 is 24oz because that correlates with the power of the motor. Yes, more liquid can help the blending. You want to have a strong vortex in the middle so if you find that that the smoothie is too thick and it doesn’t have a strong vortex then stop the blender and add more liquid.

Sorry to hear that Julies. Yes the blade design of the 1200 (LEAN or MAX models) have a different blade vs the prior popular models. The traditional Milling blade that comes with the Nutribullet 600 or 900 Pro extractor blade both have the flat blade which works better for milling or grinding dry ingredients and will work with the 1200. Hi, No you don’t need to use frozen ingredients and Nutribullet is specific about limiting the amount of ice as it impacts wear and tear on the blender blade (It will say in the instructions). You don’t say anything about the base/motor. How to clean if there’s ever a leak

Reply

Hello George, there is no special technique for cleaning up after a leak. I always turn my jar upside down before putting it in the base to check I have no leaks. If you do happen to have a leak just unplug the device and wipe it up. Some people might use a hair dryer if they have a serious spill. I’ve had a few leaks when I forgot to put the washer back into the blade base and I just quickly wiped it out with a towel and it worked fine. If you do ever get dried food caught in the push down tabs(where you lock the Nutribullet jar into) then you can wipe it out with a hot towel or wiping Qtips with rubbing alcohol.

Reply

Milling blade only comes with the Nutribullet 600 because of the 600 watt motor. The blade design on the 1200 isn’t ideal for milling because because it doesn’t have the flat blade(The popular Nutribullet Pro extractor blade has the flat blades built in so you can use as both an extractor blade and milling blade)

The 18oz short cup should work on the max but I would double check with Nutribullet just to confirm. Here is their contact information

Hi Barbara, yes you can definitely substitute in whatever liquid you like such as almond milk, rice milk, coconut milk, coconut water, cashew milk, etcetera…. Typically water is the easiest when following a weight loss or plan with smoothies so you are certain of the calories.

Hi Dianne, Typically there isn’t much you can do if the liquid dries inside. If I spill, I unplug mine and turn it upside down immediately to keep the liquid from draining down. Then I get a hair dryer to get airflow into the base. Some people will take apart their Nutribullet(there are Youtube videos showing how) but you risk the potential of damaging the blender when taking it apart.

But the next page has a table under task: Grinding coffee beans for 30 seconds. I am confused as to whether I can or cannot grind the beans.

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Debbie, the blade with the 900 isn’t necessarily designed for grinding(compared to the separate milling/grinding blade that comes with the Nutribullet 600) but it works fine. The 2 flat blades on the 4 blade extractor blade are what what does the grinding well. You can grind dry goods fine with the extractor blade but it works best when you pulse it and don’t grind for too long as the ingredients will heat up. I grind nuts, flax seed, granola all the time with the extractor blade. I typically only do grinding with the small cups. Be aware that grinding coffee beans can leave a lasting smell in the cups so really clean them out quickly after grinding coffee beans. In this video we show the results grinding flax seed with the Extractor blade versus milling blade and you can see the results are the same

Hello Piyush, Nutribullet does sell versions of their blender internationally with the 220-240V connection but if you bought a USA version then you would void the warranty using voltage converter. Nutribullet says:
“Our U.S./Canadian NutriBullet has a 120 Volt/60 Hz/600-Watt motor and 2 flat-pin polarized plug. Use of adapters and/or converters in countries other than USA and Canada may result in damage to the power base and is considered an unauthorized modification under paragraph 2 of the warranty.” You could try contacting Nutribullet directly https://www.mynutriliving.com/contact-us and see if you can refer you to a retailer locally for you. Hi MB, now that isn’t normal. I blend just water and soap lots of times to clean the jar and blade. I wasn’t clear from your comment if you are putting the hot coffee in the Nutribullet jar ? Is so then the warm/hot liquid will create pressure in the jar because Nutribullet jars don’t have a way to release the pressure. Sometimes I will blend coffee with cream for Keto Coffee in a Nutribulelt jar but I blend only 5 seconds and do it quickly after the blade is screwed on.

Should be easy, but NL doesn’t answer emails, their site says they are open on Saturdays, but they aren’t, so I haven’t been able to reach them by phone or by email to return the wrong size items. I alsp checked out the nutribullet website for models and prices and a 900w white one is 89 dollars compared to a stainless look one for 119 dollars…is this really the same bullet and just 30 dollars more for the look of it?

Reply

Hi white one should be the same blender as silver. I think the white one was sold in Europe. If you were happy with the 600w blending performance then just stick with that power. The 900 will just blend a little more finely and comes with larger 32oz jar which I use a lot for smoothies. You can use your 600w blade and jars with the 900w and vice versa(they are interchangeable). We have a youtube video showing the Nutribullet 600 vs 900 and the performance is similar but 900 will blend faster and it is nice to have extra power of the 900w for thick recipes like nut butter and fibrous vegetables.

How much liquid does the Nutribullet require (minimum)? I don’t particularly like my nutriblasts being runny and watery. But I read somewhere that you have to use some liquid. How much is too little? Is there a percentage guide like there is with ice?

Reply

I think less than 1 cup can make it too hard for the blender to blend properly but it depends on how much ingredients you are using. For example you could run 1 cup liquid with 1 banana, 1 cup spinach, and 1 cup mixed berries and it wouldn’t be runny. Also you can add in Bananas or Avocados to make smoothies thicker

We have a NutriBullet Magic Bullet and have used it consistently for over a year. Recently, the blending sound is much louder than normal to the point where it is uncomfortable to use. It actually hurts our ears. Is there a way to lubricate the device or should we just look into purchasing another one?

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Ron, does the blade turn easily when you spin it by hand ? Sometimes the blade can tighten up and you will hear it when it spins. It should spin easily by hand. You can add some WD40 on the bottom of the blade and turn it by hand to see if that helps. Otherwise just get a new blade.

We have recently purchased a Nutribullet 900 after having a 600 for many years. It is absolutely deafening and we have to insert earplugs to use it, otherwise our ears ring. We measured the noise on a decimeter and it reached 110 decibels. This is way above recommended safe levels. Does anyone else have this complaint?

Reply
    Anna Powell

    Hi Chris,
When I last used a decibel test(although it was just using a popular Android app not a decibel device) the 600 and 900 were very similar so I will try it again soon, but yes the 900 has noticable higher pitch sound versus the 600 but was never an issue personally. Last I checked via the manufacturer, the 900 motor spins about 25000 RPM’s vs 600 at 20,000 RPMS. I haven’t actually had anyone else complain about it. I will add this information though to our review comparison of the 2 blenders.

Our Nutribullet RX serves us well apart from one consistent problem. We use it to make fruit smoothies every morning and even though the light is green (not heating function) the smoothies always get warmed up during the short blast program. The only way we can solve this is to drop a couple of ice cubes in the mix, but this is not satisfactory.
Does anyone else have this problem of heating even though the heating function is not active?

Reply
Mike

Dear Anna
I have just read John Erasmus’ comments above. I can add that the heat produced in the short 60 second cycle is not on caused by friction in the cup. The heat mostly comes from the motor and gears area go the RX.

I just made a banana/greens smoothie & when i took the blade lid off there was a heap of brown goop due to filling the cup to full.. I cleaned it off, can i still drink my smoothie or would it have leaked into it??
p.s. the goop stunk quite toxic.

I would run the blade/cup with water water and soap. If you still see food stuck in blade then use butter knife to pry up the rubber washer and clean it out.

Hi Anna,
I am having trouble getting my Nutribullet to work. One of the tabs on the base won’t go down so i can’t twist the jar on. Any suggestions .

Reply
    Anna Powell

Try unplugging motor and use butter knife to push down on the spring tabs in the base where the cup locks in. Sometimes they can get grime or stuck so use a warm rag to make sure they are clean and if needed spray a little WD40 into the tabs. Then push the cup down to get them unstuck.

I have a 600 and it’s okay for the power. Looking at a Balance but the reviews (because of the app) are not very good for this model. All of a sudden, this thing is being sold with all kinds of reductions in some stores. Bed Bath and Beyond seems to be not restocking this thing. The Nutribullet site is selling it for full price, in fact it looks like more than what it was a few months ago. Is this a newer version, like a Balance 2.0? I heard some grumblings that this one was going to be replaced, but I looked at the site to see if that’s indicated. I was looking at this over the Pro because it has more watts and while the app leaves much to be desired, all that takes is an update and the basic measuring functions weren’t an issue (just the app being able to keep users’ recipes and the like). I like the idea of it, but it doesn’t (from what I see) keep it from being a regular blender. You heard anything? They are a good deal, rivaling the price of a Pro if you have one of those coupons they throw at you every other week. Let me know.

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hello. The Balance is OK but we prefer the simplicity of the 900 pro and the more electronics then the higher chance of it breaking. Our review of the Balance was “The Nutribullet Balance is essentially their 1200 watt blender with new technology at a high price. The app for measuring ingredients is time consuming to use versus just using a measuring cup. The recipes are already free to access online with Nutrition data. We honestly don’t see the need for the Balance model.”

Is there any sort of maintenance the end user can perform to correct a deafening increase in the noise level of my 1 year old NB 900? The unit is not only much noisier but vibrates more and doesn’t perform as well as it used to.

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Wes, There isn’t any maintenance but does the noise sound like it has increased at the blade or from the motor? The blades can get worn out where it spins so check if it spins easily or not. I have had my Nutribullet become quieter once I got a new blade.

I am using a relatively new blade. I have been using this replacement blade for just about 2 months. I didn’t expect to have any problems so soon after purchasing it. Currently, my NB is so loud that I have to cover my ears when using it.

        Wes T

At first, I loved my NB and spoke so highly of it that my Son jokingly stated that I sounded like a spokesman for the product. Now, I can’t use it because despite purchasing a new blade for this relatively new device, the unit is too loud. When I say loud, I mean ear ringing and deafening. I no longer use the product and am considering replacing it with a Vitamix.

Do the motors in these blowout without warning. There wasn’t any noise, etc when I last used it and I only use it for my milk and slimright shake… nothing hard

Strange I haven’t heard of that happening. Did you ever smell a burning smell ? Typically if it won’t start it is because the white tabs that you lock the jar into are stuck.

I have treated the Nutribullet very carefully. I never over-fill it. I clean the bottom and the blades every time. I keep it very clean. I have never let it run for more than 20 seconds at the most.

I bought it 04/30/2018, I still have the receipt. Have used it daily for the past three years. Three shorts runs every morning. No one else uses it.
Now, after 3 years, it heats up. Gasket and blades look fine. Is this just a sign that it has worn itself out or is it a problem that can be fixed?

Hi Judith, I have never experienced that. What model is it ? The only time I’ve heard it getting too tight is if someone blends warm/hot ingredients in it which creates a pressure seal in the jar. I would submerge the blade/jar in hot water and see if that helps.

The main things I would need to use it for would be for making butter, mayo, nut butters, and occasionally soup. There’s no low setting on this unit, I need the regular and then super soup speed. So, for making butter and mayo, can I just do it in short bursts instead of running it constantly on low? Will it work?

What is the problem with the extractor blade? Bearings?

Hello,
I have the NutriBullet 900 pro and recently it started having a problem blending ice. I make a smoothie every day and today when I added 1 cup of ice, some almond milk and protein powder to blend it made an unusually loud blending noise that almost sounded like a fan and it barely moved any of the liquid or ice. The blades were moving which was odd. I then removed all of the ingredients and just put water in the cup to see if I could watch the blades move. The blades did spin but it didn’t pulse the water like normal and it made a very loud blending/fan noise. Any help to figure out a solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Meredith, do the blade turn easily when you spin it by hand ? Sometimes the bearings get old and I have to replace the blade. Nutribullet recommend replacing the blade every 6 months if you are a daily user.

If the blade moves freely then all I can think of is you have a gear or motor part that has stripped and probably need to replace the whole unit.

Hi Anna. Regarding a very low fiber diet due to health issues, do I need to stick with low fiber foods or is the fiber broken down liquifying it. My daughter believes that by Nutribullet’s liquifying that it won’t be harmful and will be soluable.
Thanks for your attention.

Reply
    Anna Powell

Hi Peggie, I can’t give medical advice so I would really suggest speaking to your doctor but in general blending does cut up insoluble fiber into very small pieces which might help your situation. Having it in liquefied state from a blender does make it easier for the body to process in general.
